Maurice Ravel
Ravel (1875-1937) was a French impressionist composer. Although not the greatest pianist, he wrote around 30 works for solo piano that require great virtuosity and musicality to perform.
Works of his that should be studied are: Pavane pour une infante défunte Op. 19, Jeux d’eau Op. 30, Sonatine Op. 40, Miroirs Op. 43, Gaspard de la nuit Op. 55, Valses nobles et sentimentales Op. 61, and Le tombeau de Couperin Op. 68.
His two piano concerti are notable as well.
Notable chamber works include his two sonatas for violin and piano (Op. post and 77), and the Piano trio Op. 67.
